Getting the green thumbs up this Easter!

We all know the saying: reduce, reuse, recycle. While consumers are encouraged to change their habits, it is equally important for companies to play their part in creating a sustainable future. As Global Recycling Day approaches on March 18th, the call to embrace eco-conscious practices, from products to packaging,  grows more urgent.

This year’s theme,  aims to celebrate people, places and companies who are championing innovative recycling practices and habits around the world. Our aim this Global Recycling Day is to inspire all passionate gardeners to learn about sustainable gardening practices and how you can contribute to a greener future with GARDENA.

The ReTh!nk Pledge

The GARDENA ReTh!nk pledge is built on the Circular Rs: Reduce, Repair and Recycle. This framework guides us in assessing the sustainability of our products and how they enhance the sustainability of your gardening practices. This is done by:

• reducing the demand for production resources by creating premium, quality products that last.
• using innovative methods to make our products more resource-efficient, so that they use less energy and resources during their application.
• providing access to GARDENA spare parts for repairs.
• using recycled materials in our products and processes, exemplified in our EcoLine range.

The EcoLine Range

The EcoLine range consists of high-quality gardening tools that are manufactured from recycled material. The plastic components of EcoLine products are composed of 65% recycled plastic and the metal components are composed of more than 45% recycled metal. The wooden components are fashioned from FSC® certified beech wood, confirming that all materials come from a responsibly managed, FSC-certified forest.

Over the last two years the range has received quite a few awards, including the German Sustainability Award in Design in 2022 (‘Vision’ category), the award of the German state of Baden-Württemberg in 2022, and winning title at the Plastics Recycling Awards in 2023.  The sustainability of the EcoLine range runs all the way from production to packaging, which is made from 100% recycled material. Even the printing on the packaging is an eco-friendly, high-tech water-based ink.

Here are a few stand-out items from the range:

The EcoLine Secateur: The plastic components of the secateur are made from more than 80% recycled household waste while the processed steel components are made from more than 75% recycled material.

The EcoLine Patio Weeder: The plastic components of the weeder are made from more than 85% recycled material and the stainless-steel blade is made from more than 45% recycled material.

The efforts outlined in our ReTh!nk pledge has expanded into smart and sustainable watering solutions.

The Micro-Drip-System: provides plants with the exact amount of water they need, preventing overwatering and waterlogging while minimising evaporation.

The Water Reservoir: In conjunction with the AquaBloom Set, the reservoir waters your plants without a connection to the grid.

The Soil Moisture Sensor: This sensor measures the moisture content of the soil and alerts your automatic watering system, like the GARDENA Water Control Select, to skip the upcoming watering cycle to prevent unnecessary, wasteful irrigation.
